Wave Motion Flashcards
Progressive Wave
A progressive wave is one that transfers energy from one point to another without the transfer of matter
Phase Angle
Phase (or phase angle) of a wave gives a measure of the fraction of a cycle that has been completed by an oscillating particle or by a wave
Phase Difference
Phase difference between two particles in a wave or between two waves at a point is a measure of the fraction of a cycle which one is ahead of the other
Wavefront
Wavefront is a line or surface joining points on a wave that are in phase
The wave travels in a direction that is perpendicular to the wavefront
Polarisation
Polarisation is a phenomenon whereby the oscillations of transverse waves are restricted to a single plane
