Watson et al. (1920) (Behaviourist) Flashcards
What type of study is it?
Controlled observation
Why is it not a case study?
Focus was only on little alberts response - not on the rest of his life
Why is it not a experiment?
Only one condition
What were Alberts emotional tests?
HE was confronted with objects he had never seen before (rat, dog, monkey, masks) and then tested with a loud sound
What was session one?
Rat was presented, as albert reached the bar was struck
What was session two?
1 week later, he was shown the rat with no sound to see his reaction. He then had 5 joint stimulation
What was session three?
Researchers wanted to know is the link between the rat and noise would be generalised
What was session four?
His response was ‘freshened’ with JS. Then taken to a lecture room (new environment)
What was session five?
He was tested for one last time
What were the findings of the emotional tests?
No fear response
What were the findings of session one?
When the bar was stuck, he fell forward but did not cry. When it was struck again, he fell and whimpered
What were the findings of session two?
Albert showed a new response to the rat, he just stared at it. Behaviour waws tested by giving him some blocks to play with. After more JS, albert became distressed, when he was shown the rat, he cried
What were the findings of session three?
Instantly respond to both the rabbit and rat with fear
What were the findings of session four?
Responses to the rat and rabbit were less extreme. After more JS, the response was stronger
What were the findings of session five?
His reaction to furry objects was not as extreme as previously but he avoided them and whimpered
