Q

What do you do if caught in a rip?

A
  • DO NOT PANIC! Panicking swimmers often get tired and drown in the water. If you should get caught in a rip current, don’t panic. Don’t fight the rip current.
  • To get out, swim sideways, parallel to the beach and let the waves help you back in.
  • If you can’t escape, try to float or tread water. Rips weaken offshore. Swim away from the rip current toward shore.

++Draw attention to yourself: face the shore, wave your arms, and yell for help.
