- Integrated Water Resources Management; holistic management of water. But faces challenges in reconciling competing interests
- Privatization and Market-Based Approaches; advocated by neoliberal policies. Challenges equity, access and the commodification of water.
- Community-Based Governance; emphasizes local control, but may lack the resources to address larger-scale water challenges
