Water Cycle and Bioaccumulation Flashcards
What is Bioaccumulation?
Bioaccumulation is the process of accumulation of chemicals in an Organism that takes place if the rate of intake exceeds the rate of excretion. These chemicals are introduced into the Organism through exposure to a biotic environment.
What is a pesticide?
A pesticide is a substance or a mixture of substances which is intended for preventing, destroying, repelling, or mitigating any pest. It can also be used as a plant regulator, defoliant, or desiccant.
What is Biomagnification?
Biomagnification is when toxins increase in concentration as they are passed up the food chain.
What is transpiration?
Transpiration is the loss of excess water in the form of water vapour through pores present on the surface of leaves called stomata in plants.
