China, India, Pakistan - 3 of the biggest populations
Was lots of conflcit due to increase demand but treaty came in and now works.
Case study for water transfer?
China’s south-north water transfer
- It aims im is to divert 45bnm³ of water a year from surplus river basins in the south and east to the north where there is frequent water deficits in places such as Beijing
- The project will cost US$62 billion to complete and will involve the resettlement of people which is not popular

MURRAY DARLING BASIN , AUSTRALIA
Reasons:
* Severe over-extraction of water for agriculture (especially cotton and rice)
- Droughts and climate variability
Objectives:
* Sets sustainable diversion limits (how much water can be taken)
- Allocates water between states and sectors (agriculture, environment, urban)
- Funds restoration projects for wetlands and river health
Successes:
* Helped restore flow to degraded rivers and wetlands
- Increased awareness and cooperation across states
