Water that falls to the ground in the form of rain, snow, sleet
Precipitation
Water located on the surface of the earth such as lakes and streams
Surface water
Water that drains over the surface of the earth after falling as precipitation.
Runoff
When water drains down into the ground or soil
Infiltration
Water held underground in the soil or in pores and crevices in rock
Groundwater
The movement of groundwater which occurs very slowly

Height above or below a given location
Elevation
The force that pulls things towards the earth.
Gravity
An area of higher elevation land that dictates where surface water and groundwater drain
Watershed
The source of energy that causes water to move (for example gravity)
Energy driver
A collection of water that is either man made or natural where water is held for future use. ( locks, dams, rivers)
Reservior
A way to move water from place to place, moving dirty water out and clean water in.
Water System
Decision named by the creator of the model of what is included and excluded from model
Boundary
All the parts needed to explain the phenomenon or problems.
