A
Ammonia reacts with water to form ammonium hydroxide. Lime is added to convert ammonium hydroxide to ammonia gas? Which is discharged into the atmosphere.
Does not remove nitrite and organic nitrogen
Could cause air pollution

A
Anaerobic ammonium oxidation.
Oxidation of ammonia using nitrite as the oxidant
Uses two types of bacteria- nitrifying and anammox
No need for an organic substrate, lower power requirement

Anaerobic environment, microorganisms use oxygen from NO3 to make N2 gas
