Trench is dug to a depth of 2 feet narrow enough to permit straddling or squating
Straddle trench latrine
Small hole excavated then cover the feces when through
Cat hole latrine
Floor cover at the top of pit is provided with a riser, seat and self closing lid, all made of fly tight
Pit privy
Pit privy in wc superstructure is elevated to the same level as the mainbuilding of the house
Antipolo type
Commonly used when night soil is collected for agricultural purpose
Vault type
Has a superstructure slightly away from the pit and a tall vertical vent pipe with a fly screen that is fitted outside the latrine superstructure
Ventilated improved pit
Consists relatively of deep holes bored into earth with mechanical or manual earth boring equipment
Bored hole latrine
Consists of a pit provy modified to include a relatively simple bowl made of concrete or other durable material instead of mere opening on floor
Water sealed latrine
Chemical toilets
Utlilizes the principle of liquefaction of organic matter by use of caustic chemicals
Provision of water tight receptacles in a flytight compartment for the accumulation and storage of fecal material to short periods and the regular removal and disposal of wastes in a sanitaty manner
Pail system
Latrine is installed so that the ground under the latrine is not exposed during dry season or low tide
Overhung latrine
Consists of watertight tank filled with water into which fecal material is discharged
Septic toilet
Consists of a single story settling tank into which raw sewage is led from the houshold plumbing system
Septic tank system
Upper tank provides sedimentation of solids while lower tank provides a storage space for settled solids(sludge) and allows anaerobic decomposition
Imhoff tank
Excavation designed and constructed to receive raw or pretreated domestic sewage and or some organic industrial wastes
