Warm Up/cool Down Flashcards
What is static stretching?
When the muscle is held in a stationary position for 30 seconds
What is active stretching?
Working on one joint, push it beyond its point of resistance
What is passive stretching?
Help with an external force (wall/partner)
What is ballistic stretching?
Using a bounce/swinging action to push the body part even further
What are the physiological benefits to a warm up?
Increases elasticity of muscle tissue
Increases muscle temp, oxygen dissociate from muscles more readily
Increased HR due to increase release of Adrenaline
Physiological benefits to a cool down?
Maintains Venous return through skeletal muscular pump
Removes lactic acid
Gradually reduces HR and breathing rate
What does FITT stand for?
Frequency, intensity, time, type
