Warm up and Muscular System Flashcards
What is the name given to two Muscles that work together?
Antagonistic pairs
Give an example of two muscles that work together
Biceps and triceps
Why do we warm up?
Explain why warming up increases blood flow.
There are a number of resons why we warm up.
To increase blood flow- Warming up increases blood flow because your heart has to work harder to pump blood through the body. The more blood pumped, the more the red pigment in your red blood cells (haemoglobin) carry oxygen to your muscles. This enhances performance.
Why do we warm up?
Explain why warming up increases body temperature.
There are a number of reasons why we warm up.
Warming up increases body temperature because respiration, a chemical reaction that occurs in your cells, releases energy in the muscles. When the body temperature is too high, the skin produces sweat. Sweat comes from tiny pores in your skin and it takes in some of your body heat. This heat is taken with the sweat as it evaporates which cools you down. Swaet has a ain purpose of maintaining a healthy body temperature.
Why do we warm up
Explain why warming up increases heart.
There are many reasons why we warm up.
Our heart has to work extra hard to pump blood around the body to enhance performance. This increases the heart rate because your heart rate is the speed at wich your heart beats.
Why do we warm up?
Explain why warming up increases flexibility.
There are many reasons why we warm up.
When you warm up you stretch your muscles so as not to put stress on your muscles. It makes your muscles supple and pliable. This allows them to move easily without feeling any pressure or as much pain as you would if you hadn’t stretched.
Why do we warm up?
Explain why warming up prepares you physically and mentally and why it prevents injury.
There are many reasons why we warm up
We are prepared physically when we excercise because our body is warm.
We are prepared mentally because we have had time to focus on your objectives and review your skills.
We are preventing injury because our muscles our stretched and are more supple.
Three parts of a warm up
Pulse raiser - This is an activity that increases your heart rate such as high knees.
Stretches - This is where we stetch our muscles to stop them getting injured an example ccould be lunges.
Skills Practice - This is a practice linked to a certain sport you are doing For example rallying practice for badminton.
