Simile
A method of comparism
Metaphor
a figure of speech in which a word or phrase is applied to an object or action to which it is not literally applicable
Caesura
A pause near the middle of a line
Enjambment
the continuation of a sentence without a pause beyond the end of a line, couplet, or stanza.

a version of metaphor that extends over the course of multiple lines, paragraphs, or stanzas of prose or poetry
Personification
the attribution of a personal nature or human characteristics to something non-human, or the representation of an abstract quality in human form.
Alliteration
the occurrence of the same letter or sound at the beginning of adjacent or closely connected words
Rhyme scheme
the ordered pattern of rhymes at the ends of the lines of a poem or verse
Repetition
the action of repeating something that has already been said or written
Onamatopoeia
the formation of a word from a sound associated with what is named
Narrative voice
the perspective the story is told from
Propoganda
information, especially of a biased or misleading nature, used to promote a political cause or point of view.
Jingoism
extreme patriotism, especially in the form of aggressive or warlike foreign policy

pointlessness or uselessness

a group of lines forming the basic recurring metrical unit in a poem; a verse
Verb
a word used to describe an action, state, or occurrence, and forming the main part of the predicate of a sentence, such as hear, become, happen

word naming an attribute of a noun, such as sweet, red, or technical
Patriotism
the quality of being patriotic; devotion to and vigorous support for one’s country
Conflict
a serious disagreement or argument, typically a protracted one
Hyperbole
exaggerated statements or claims not meant to be taken literally
Trenches
a long, narrow ditch

a strong, regular repeated pattern of movement or sound
Assonance
resemblance of sound between syllables of nearby words, arising particularly from the rhyming of two or more stressed vowels
