War Photographer Flashcards
In his darkroom
A darkroom is the place where a photos were developed
Can be a a metaphor for the photographers mind and how he deals with the things he has seen
He is finally alone
This suggests that he is finally at peace and away from the warzone
With spools of suffering
The spools refer the to the spools of photos that are being developed whilst the suffering is referring to the pictures themselves
“The only light is red and softly glows.”
This can be a metaphor for the blood of the people in these photos.
“Solutions slop.”
Uses onomatopoeia to give a sound to the solutions being used to develop the photos.
“Beneath his hands that did not tremble.”
Everything is in his hands now
“Priest preparing to intone a mass.”
This imply that he takes his job very seriously
“Rural England. Home again.”
Then past tense = the war-zone
Now =home
“To ordinary pain.”
Refers to the suffering depicted in the photos
