Vocal Moment 3
Albert Plough Scene

A

Vocal skills were effectively used by Tom Sturgess (Albert) to create tension in plough scene with Joey. At the beginning of the scene Albert uses a patient tone and quiet volume when interacting with Joey and trying to persuade him to wear a saddle. This shows how he has just started the process of training Joey and so there is a lack of tension. These vocal skills used by Albert ( Tom Sturgess ) develop throughout the scene. His volume increases until it becomes loud and his pace of voice becomes much faster as the days progress. This creates a sense of building tension for the audience as they are able to watch Albert’s frustrations and anxietys grow and grow. As Albert’s vocal skill’s intensify the audience feels the tension as to whether Joey will be able to be kept by Albert.

Q

Physical moment
Albert reunited with Joey

A

Albert used a different type of body language compared to the opening moments. In the opening he was more closed off and was crossing his arms as he was young and insecure. However in the closing moments he was more confident and held his head higher as he came back to his village. He also used a much more confident and lower tone of voice compared to the stuttering, high pitched one at the start to show how he had aged and grown more mature while he was away
Albert used very loving body language when being reunited with Joey. This included running up to Joey and hugging and petting him to show his love for Joey and how much he had missed him. He also used a sympathetic facial expression to show his relief and his guilt of Joey being sold and put through the horrible events of the war.

A

The English and German soldiers wore historically accurate military uniforms, to help highlight the difference between them and also draw a more realistic vision as to the event of the story
They had intricacies including badges and
The military uniforms began neat and pressed but became increasingly haggard and tattered to reflect the brutality of the war.
Showed how the soldiers and new recruits did not expect the horrors of the war and were naively playing at soldiers only to be brutally put down.
Reflects the character’s relationship with war through uniform.
