Define The Just War Theory
The idea that war is only permitted in a specific set of circumstances
Define pacifism
The idea that violence and physical conflict is wrong
Define Holy War
A war fought for the protection or expansion of religious ideals.
Give 5 conditions of the Just War Theory
- The call for war must come from a legitimate authority
- War must be to defend the innocent, not for land or money
- There must be a proportionate and equal response
- Civilians must not be attacked or targeted
- War must be over as soon as possible
Give a Bible verse in support of pacifism
“Do not say, I will get you back for this wrong, but wait for the Lord, for he shall deliver you.” Proverbs 20:22
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God”

“But I say to you, Do not resist the one who is evil. But if anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.”

What are the two types of pacifism?
Absolute pacifism: The belief that violence is wrong no matter what the circumstances.
Conditional pacifism: You shouldn’t take up arms to fight but you may help in the war effort. e.g. ambulance driver.
Give an example of a Christian pacifist group and what they believe.
Amish are so against war that they don’t grow moustaches as it was first a military tradition.
Define Exclusivism
The belief that if you are not a Christian, you will go to hell indefinitely.
Define Evangelism
The branch of Christianity that believes only Christianity has the truth about god, and actively go out and try to convert others.
Define Plurallism
The idea that all religions are equally true.
Define Inclusivism
The belief that Jesus is the one true son of God, but God is expressed in other religions.
Define Ecumenism
The aim of promoting unity in the world’s Christian churches.
Define Forgiveness
The ability to accept someone’s actions and to not act upon them and/ or show regret.
Define Reconciliation
the ending of conflict or renewing a relationship with other people or
with god.
