Synchronous Digital Heirarchy (SDH) is?
Synchronous Digital Heirarchy (SDH) is the european version of SONET.
What does SONET stand for?
Synchronous Optical Network.
What does OLT stand for?
Optical line termination
What does PON stand for?
Passive optical network is one in which unpowered optical splitters are used to split the fiber so it can service a number of loactions. it brings fiber to the curb, building or home. It’s passive because no power is used.
DWDM?
Is a form of multiplexing optical signals. It replaces SONET/SDH regenerators with erbium doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs) and can also amplify the signal and enable it to travel a greater distance.
The main components of a DWDM system are?
Terminal multiplexer
Line repeaters
Terminal demultiplexer
An alternative to DWDM is?
CWDM - coarse wavelength-division multiplexing - used with television cabling.
