Pharmacy Practice Includes:
1) Interpreting prescription orders
2) Compounding, dispensing, labeling, administering, and distributing drugs and devices.
3) Monitoring drug therapy
4) Initiating/modifying drug therapy in accordance with written guidelines or protocols previously established and approved for their practice by a practitioner authorized to prescribe drugs
5) Participating in drug utilization reviews & product selection
6) Proper & safe storage & distribution of drugs/devices and maintenance of proper records
7) Providing information on legend drugs which may include, but is not limited to, the advising of therapeutic values, hazards, and the uses of drugs and devices

Definition of “Delivery” or “Delivery”
the actual, constructive, or attempted transfer from one person to another of drug or device, whether or not there is an agency relationship
Define “Dispense”
the interpretation of a prescription or order for a drug, biological, or device and the proper selection, measuring, compounding, labeling, or packaging necessary to prepare that prescription or order for delivery
Define “Distribute”
the delivery of a drug or device other than by administering or dispensing
Define “Compounding”
the act of combining two or more ingredients in preparation of a prescription
Define “Labeling”
the process of preparing and affixing a label to any drug or device container. The label must include all info required by current federal and state law and pharmacy rules
Define “Administer”
direct application of a drug or device (injection, inhalation, ingestion, or any other means to the body of a patient or research subject
Define “Monitoring of Drug Therapy”
a review of the drug therapy regimen of patients by a pharmacist for the purpose of evaluating and rendering advice to the prescribing practitioner regarding adjustment
What does drug therapy monitoring include
1) Collecting & reviewing patient drug histories
2) Measuring & reviewing routine patient vital signs including, but not limited to , pulse, temp, BP, & RR
3) Ordering and evaluating lab tests relating to drug therapy including Blood chem, cell counts, drug levels in blood/urine/tissue/ body fluids, and culture/sensitivity tests when ordered in accordance to policies & procedures or protocol
