W9 Flashcards
What is geocoding
The process of transforming a physical address or place name into a location on the Earth
What are the two main components needed to successfully geocode?
- Reference datasets (ex. road network)
- Geocoding algorithm/method (address interpolation)
Give two examples of a reference dataset.
A road network is a geospatial dataset consisting of nodes (points/intersections) and edges (lines)
A administrative dataset
What is topology?
A set of rules and behaviours that model how points, lines, and polygons share geometries
What is the connection be topology and a network graph?
Informs the relationships made up by edges and nodes
How is topology useful in a road network?
Allows for “traversal” of a road network, ensures roads are connected not disjointed, allows for routing algorithm to determine the path.
How would one do address interpolation?
idk
