W4 DNA replication Flashcards
1
Q
Replicon:
A
-Unit of DNA in which individual acts of replication occur
-Each replicaon only fires once per cell cycle
-Each has an origin where replication initiates and a terminus where it stops
-Any sequence not separated from an origin by terminus is replicated as part of the replicon
2
Q
DNA replication in bacteria:
A
-Replicon origins and surrounding sequences do 3 things:
-Initiate the replication cycle
-Control frequency of initiation
-Control segregation to daughter cells
3
Q
Replication fork:
A
-Where the parental duplex separates into 2 parental strands during replication
