What is Ethics?
Ethics deals with human conduct in relation to what is morally good and bad
Bassed on what soceity perceives as right and wrong behaviour
Why are ethics important?
- Hepls us judge whether an indivdual’s behaviour is justifiable
- Affects the welfare of society
- Helps create longterm positive effects for businesses
- Enhances overrall productivity and employee morale
Ethical theory - Teleogical
Teleogical (Consequential):
* The consequences of a decision or action is the sole determinant of what is right and wrong
* As long as the benefits outweigh the costs it is ethical
Ethical theory - Derontological
Deontological (Non-consequential)
* The intentions to do the right thing is more important than the final result
* You do the right thing simply because it is ‘the right thing to do’.
Ethical Decision Making Process
- Identify ethical issues
- Gather information and consider ethical principles
- Identify and evaluate alternative courses of action
- Decide a course of action
Role of ethics in Accouting
Accountants are in charge of the finances in a business
Therefore, they must:
* Exercise sound moral judgement in all accounting activities
* Have a responsibility to provide clients with professional services while preventing liabel and accurate details of a company financial information
Code of ethics:
Code of Ethics in Accouting is called ‘ APES 110”
Governs how professional accountant should behave to remain ethical
Fundamental principles - Integrity
- Be straightforward
- Sincere
- Honest

- No bias
- No conflict of interest
- Act independently in the mind and in appearance
Fundamental principles - Professional competnece and due care
- Attaini and maintian professional technical knowledge for clients or employers
- requires diligence and appropriate training and supervision

- Do not disclose sensitive information

- Comply with laws and regulation
