W 6 - introduction to spinal pathways Flashcards
Describe the organisation and composition of the grey and white matter in the spinal cord
Describe the basic components and function of spinal pathway
Describe the basic organisation and function of the ascending (sensory) and descending (motor) spinal pathways
Ascending (Sensory) Pathways
Sensory information from the body to brain
Information: limb position, touch, temperature, pressure, pain
Divided into:
Somatosensory pathways: process stimuli received from receptors in the skin, skeletal muscles, joints etc
Viscerosensory pathways: process stimuli received from viscera (organs)
neurons in somatosensory pathways
Describe the corticospinal tracts in the direct motor pathways
Describe the corticospinal tracts in the direct motor pathways (neurons)
Briefly describe the indirect motor pathways
