How to Test your inhaler?
Before using for the first time or if your inhaler has not been used for a week or more remove the mouthpiece cover by gently squeezing the sides of the cover, shake the inhaler well, and release two puffs into the air to make sure that it works.
What is the General Inhaler Cleaning Instruction (Puffers (standard MDIs)?
A standard puffer consists of a plastic case or holder with a cap, and a metal canister. The plastic case needs to be cared for differently depending on the type of medication you are using the puffer for. The metal canister does not need to be cleaned
Corticosteroid-containing preventer medication (e.g. Flixotide, Seretide, Symbicort)
These puffers need to stay dry, so must never be washed. Remove the mouthpiece cover. Do not remove the canister from the plastic casing.
Wipe the inside and outside of the mouthpiece with a dry cloth or tissue.
Dry powder inhalers
Dry powder inhalers include Accuhaler, Breezhaler, Ellipta,Spiromax and Turbuhaler.
These inhalers need to stay dry, so must never be washed. The mouthpiece can be wiped with a dry tissue if needed.

How to take your Spacer care?
Clean your spacer before you use it for the first time and then about once a month
It’s not unusual for your spacer to look a bit cloudy
Wash your spacer in warm water with kitchen detergent and allow to air dry without rinsing
Drying with a cloth or paper towel can result in electrostatic charge (‘static’) on the inside of the spacer, which make the medication stick to the sides
Wipe the mouthpiece clean of detergent before use
Spacers should be checked by your doctor, pharmacist or nurse every 6-12 months to check the structure is intact (e.g. no cracks) and the valve is working.
