A
- Patient weight (kg)
- U+E results - Serum creatinine / eGFR
- Type of admission - medical or surgical
- Acute illness or not
- Mobility - normal or reduced

What are the types of risk factors that need to be considered in the VTE assessment?

Thrombosis risk
- Dehydration, acute illness, age > 60
- Normal PE/DVT risks
- Specific surgical/admission-related risks
Bleeding risk
- HAS-BLED

A
Thrombosis risk > bleeding risk
- VTE prophylaxis - consider weight and eGFR for drug choice and dose
No thrombosis risk, or bleeding risk > thrombosis risk:
- No VTE prophylaxis
