VSD/AVSD Flashcards
Most common type of ASD
Ostium Secundum
This isolated defect is associated with Holt-oram syndrome
Ostium secundum ASD
This occurs in conjunction with complex cardiac anomalies and is located low on the atrial septum, adjacent to the AV valves.
Ostium Primum ASD
This type of ASD is present with PAPVC
Sinus venous ASD of the SVV
This rare ASD is present with persistent left SVC
Coronary Sinus ASD
This will appear as a larger then expected area of dropout in the central portion of the septum, near the FO, or as a deficient foramenal flap that fails to cover the FO
Ostium Secundum ASD
These ASD are not seen in utero
Sinus venous and coronary sinus
Most common VSD
Perimembranous
Perimembranous are termed this when they result in both ventricles emptying into the same great artery
Malalignment defects
VSDs that occur as a part of AVSDs are
Inlet VSD
Complete AVSD
Primum ASD
Inlet VSD
Common AV valve, 5 leaflets
Partial AVSD
Primum ASD
Inlet VSD
Separate MV and TV orifices
Cleft anterior MV leaflet
Cleft septal TV leaflet
Intermediate AVSD
Rarest
Primum ASD
VSD
MV and TV leaflets are fused above the ventricular septum, dividing the common AV valve into separate mitral and tricuspid components
Define balanced AVSDs
Equally connected to the left and right ventricles, so that each ventricle receives an equal amount of blood and are similar in size
Define unbalanced AVSDs
When the AV is predominantly committed to either ventricle, resulting in hypoplasia of the ventricle receiving the decreased blood supply
AVSD + CHB =
Polysplenia
