A VPN that transmits data between corporate sites using the Internet using a private tunneling system with encrypted data through public infrastructure.

- cost savings (use public infrastructure)
- flexibility (branch offices, mobile phones, home office connections)
- scalability (geographic and bandwidth of the Internet increase on their own!)

How are branch office VPNs different from other VPNs?
A
They use the same VPN equipment and configuration, and would only configure the VPN once, as the connection is up all the time. Links are not torn down and re-established.
