What is the rational choice model?
A theory that states individuals use rational calculations to make rational choices and achieve outcomes that are aligned with their own personal objectives
What is the sociological voting model?
The Sociological model is a model based on the psychological attachment that people have to political parties.
What are the main factors that affect voting?
Age, Class, Gender and Region
How does ‘Age’ usually affect voting behaviour?
Younger voters are much more likely to vote for Labour party whereas older voters are much more likely to vote for the Conservatives
How does ‘Gender’ usually affect voting behaviour?
Men are more likely than women to vote further right parties, women are more likely to vote further left
How does ‘Class’ usually affect voting behaviour?
Those who are working class and less wealthy than others would usally vote labour due to their wealth redistribution policies and being ‘for the people’ whereas higher classes would vote Conservative as their policies benefit them
How does ‘Region’ usually affect voting behaviour?
Voters in poorer areas of the country, such as the north of England and Wales, are more likely to support Labour whereas voters in wealthier areas such as the south of England, except London, and rural areas more often support the Conservatives.
