vors Flashcards
what does VOR stand for
Very high frequency Omnidirectional Range
what frequencies does the vor use
108 - 117.95 MHz
*except 108.1 - 111.95 for localizers
what does full scale deflection on a vor
10° (each dot represents 2° of deflection)
what about standard service volumes
standard service volumes do not apply to published routes
what is the VOR MON
VOR Minimum Operational Network
ensures as old VORs are decommissioned, a MON airport (i.e. equipped with a VOR approach) is available within 100NM regardless of airacrft position in the CONUS
draw the vor service volumes
how often should a vor receiver check occur
30 days
what are the types of vor checks
±4: VOT (VOR ground test facility), repair station, ground checkpoint, & dual vor cross check
±6: airborne check & above a prominent ground landmark within 20 NM of the VOR at a reasonably low altitude
what is a vot check sign off

what are VOR limitations
cone of confusion: as you get closer the needle starts to deflect and the flag flips when up you pass over the VOR
reverse sensing: if used incorrectly. the radial will say it’s on you left when it’s actually on your right
requires line of sight: VOR doesn’t work through mnts
does MGA get reverse sensing
ONLY if AHRS IS PULLED
