Von Duprin Competitive Analysis Flashcards
What are some of the other disadvantages of a flush mount device?
Certain doors undergo thermal expansion, which can twist the device. This can, in certain cases, lead to binding of the latchbolt.
What is the Von Duprin primarily constructed of?
Aluminum, with multiple finishes on the body of the device.
Why are there so many parts on a Von Duprin exit device?
Instead of reengineering the device, Von Duprin adds unneeded features to correct for past engineering oversights.
More parts=more parts that can fail.
How is the Von Duprin end cap mounted? What effect does this have?
Flush! Which means that you have to be very careful cutting it down. Otherwise you can end up with gaps between the channel and cap.
On a vertical rod device, which rods require adjustment on a Von Duprin?
Both top and bottom.
Only the top does on a Precision. The bottom is self-adjusting.
The Von Duprin touch bar has two main weaknesses. What are they?
The ends of it protrude, and it’s prone to snagging on things like carts, backpacks and purses. That’s not very safe in an emergency!
The scalp (cover) on the bar is prone to dents.
Is the Von Duprin expensive?!
More so than the Precision, and it the options are much more expensive.
It’s like when you buy a stock car at the dealership and they charge you 2 grand to put a stereo in it.
What do you need if you’re installing a Von Duprin over a lite?
A shim kit. The Von Duprin mounts flush.
