Volumetric Analysis Flashcards
What does deliquescent mean?
Gain of compounds from the atmosphere.
What does efflorescent mean?
The loss of compounds to the atmosphere.
What is a Primary Standard and when is it used?
A solution with known concentration, high purity, known formula and stability. It is used to standardise (find concentration of) substances.
What is Secondary Standard?
A solution which has doubtful concentration due to efflorescence and deliquescence. Concentration can be found with a ‘Primary Standard’
What is another word for Volumetric Analysis and when is it used?
A titration is used when the concentration or moles of one substance is unkown.
When is a Back Titration used? *
When the sample being analysed is: insoluble, weak acid or base or is volatile (evaporates easily).
What is the rough pH of the Equivalence Point of a:
- Strong acid and strong base (or weak acid and weak base)
- Strong base and weak acid
- Strong acid and weak base respectively?
Exactly 7, above 7 and below 7.
