Volume and Total Surface Area of a Composite Solids Flashcards
What is a composite solid
It is a solid that is made up cubes and cuboids put together
How many cubes of length 10 cm does this solid have?
It has 3
What is the volume of 1 such cube?
103 = 1 000 cm3
What is the volume of the solid?
Volume = 3 * 1 000 cm3
= 3 000 cm3
What is the front view like?
What is the back view like?
What is the top view like?
What is the side 1 view like?
What is the side 2 view like?
What is the area of 1 square?
102 = 100 cm2
What many squares of length 10 are there in the solid?
You add up all the square in the 6 views
3 + 3 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 14
What is the total surface area of the solid?
Multiply the number of squares by the area of 1 square
14 * 100 = 1400 cm2
What is the difference in the 2 solids
The are identical except that the bottom has a part of it removed
What is the best way to find the volume of the bottom solid?
Find the volume of whole solid and the part that is removed. Then find the difference in volume.
What is the volume of this solid?
Volume = 10 * 20 * 30
= 6 000 cm3
