All occupancies not included in Category B or C
Category B Assignment
Not less than six fire companies, including no less than two trucks
(4 Engines + 2 Light Forces + 1BC + 1 PAramedic Rescue + 1 EMS Captain + 1 800 Series Rescue + 1 Squad)
Category B Criteria
Required Fire Flow 4500 GPM and above
Dwellings, apartments and hotel occupancies four or more stories in height
Commercial/Industrial More than 15,000 ft on two floors or 10,000 ft on one floor
All Fire Prevention occupancies in PSS (Schools, nurseries two+ stories; Sanatoriums, homes for aged, hospitals, PA, churches) except B-2 occupancies under 100 feet
All Assemblage occupancies on second floor or above
Category C Assignment
Not less than four fire companies, including not less than three engine companies and one truck
Special assignments including Brush, Harbor, Airport, etc.
Required Fire Flow
Standard used to estimate the number of companies needed to fully extinguish a fully involved structure fire
