Define ace.
A serve that results directly in a point without further action by players on the serving team. Typically, the ace can be detected due to an inability to touch the served ball or a shanked pass by a player on the receiving team.
Define blocking.
Refers to the actions taken by players standing at the net to stop or alter an opponent’s attack.
Define bump.
The use of a forearm to pass or set the ball in an underhand manner.
Define dig.
A defensive contact following an opponent’s attack resulting in a playable ball.
Define double contact/double.
A fault in which a play contacts the ball with two body parts consecutively.
Define foot fault.
The illegal act of placing a foot on or inside the end line prior to the serve. Like tennis, the server’s foot must always be located behind the end line until the server serves the ball.

Successful, legal, point-scoring spike attack.
Define lifting.
A foul which results from allowing the ball to rest on the hand or hands as they are carried upward.
