Study
2 things injury can be supported with?
strapping/taping/brace
2 things strapping/taping can help with?
preventing injury & further injury
what is the role of the tape?
limit movement to an injured joint
what should tape also provide?
support to muscle surrounding the joint
what is an alternative to strapping?
braces & support
what is an advantage of using a brace? state 2 examples of brace.
suit specific injuries& can use repeatedly ankle, knee
5 main goals of rehabillitation?
-range of motion
-muscular endurance
-muscular strength
-regain stability & balance
-maintain fitness
describe range of motion, whats your rehab goal?
Restore your movement potential of a joint- movement should match pre injury
describe muscle induance, what is the process if you have pain? activities include
should be able to stand your previous amount of resistance, should not experience any pain, walking ,swimming ,cycling
describe muscular strength, what does pain and swelling indicate?
be able to withstand load bearing on the muscle at pre-injury levels, indicates injury is not yet ready for this phase
describe stability and balance
being able to demonstrate stabilioty 7 balance to pre-injury able to bear weight through injured area without loosing stability.
describe the majour role of the rehab process?
to increase activity withing the limits of pain
what should athlete demonstrate before returning to sport
-free from pain
-full range motions
-regain muscular strength
-regain endurance & power
-regain aerobic fitness
primary aim when caring for an injury?
do no further damage to the athlete
1st AID acronym if patient is UNCONCIOUS
D- danger
R- response
S- send for help
A- airways
B- breathing
C- cpr
D- defibrillator
1st AID acronym if patiesnt is CONCIOUS
S- stop
T- talk about what happened
O- observe the athlete state of mind + symptoms
P- prevent further injury
1st AID acronym for a SOFT TISSUE INJURY
R- rest
I- ice (long as you want)
C- compression
E- elevation
R- referal
procedure to assess SPRAINS OF STRAINS
Talk- find out bout the pain, occurred
Observe- mental state, consious, pupils
Touch- feel the lumps, bone, msucle
Activate Movement- movement test, the limbs
Passive movement- move limbs gently for them
Skill test- in none above produce pain, they can return to sport
when managing SOFT TISSUE INJURY what should be AVOIDED?
H- heat, increases bleeding to injury
A- alchohol, increase swelling
R- runing, can increase blood flow
M- message, increase bleeding
3 ways to prevent inury
- fitness levels
-playing area
-aware of medical conditions
purpose of a ‘warm-up’
prepare body for activity and significantly reduces risk of muscle injury and soreness
purpose of s ‘cool-down’
pump blood back to the heart, if not, lactic acid will build up and contribute to soreness.
role of PPE
Reduce severity if incident/ impact occurs. DOESN’T prevent injury.
3 forms of PPE and their purpose
-playing surfece must be safe (free from haxard)
-equiptment must not be faulty
-Indoor venue (light, surface)
