a type of serve in which the player holds the ball in one hand, swings the other in an arc motion below the waist and strikes the ball from the bottom with a fist to put it in play
underhand serve
the most common competitive serve as it is delivered with a good pace and spin. it will cause it to dive to the ground quickly once it clears the net. This serve can be very effective if aimed at the back
topspin serve
type of serve where the ball does not spin. making it unpredictable, and more difficult to pass. It can go left, right or even drop abruptly.
float serve
serve where player increases power and serve height by jumping to hit the ball
jump serve
type of serve that a player performs in volleyball when the serving player performs a small jump or hop and hits the ball in such a way that causes the ball to have little to no-spin on it

what are the 2 types of setting?
• forearm setting
• overhead setting
performed by bringing the forearms together to work as a platform for passing the ball. historically the most commonly used surface for controlling the first ball sent over the net by a serve or an attack
forearm passing
used to direct the ball to the target by contacting the ball with both hands. The ball is played up overhead using a setting type motion.
