Volcanoes And Other Igneous Activity Flashcards
Definition of a Igneous
Igneous rock (derived from the Latin word ignis meaning fire) is one of the three main rock types, the others being sedimentary and metamorphic. Igneous rock is formed through the cooling and solidification of magma or lava.
Definition of lava
hot molten or semi-fluid rock erupted from a volcano or fissure, or solid rock resulting from cooling of this.
Definition of Magma
hot fluid or semi-fluid material below or within the earth’s crust from which lava and other igneous rock is formed on cooling.
Definition of a Viscosity
The viscosity of a fluid is a measure of its resistance to gradual deformation by shear stress or tensile stress. For liquids, it corresponds to the informal concept of “thickness”. For example, honey has a much higher viscosity than water.
