Volcanoesπ Flashcards
How does a volcano form
A volcano forms when two plates collide or separate and magma rises from the mantle. It fills the vent in an eruption. Magma cools and hardens at the surface, which is called lava. Layers of ash and lava build up to from a cone shape.

active volcano- has erupted in the last 10,000 years
dormant volcano- hasnt erupted in last 10,000 years but might erupt again
Extinct volcano- never going to erupt again
name a mid ocean ridge and how it was formed
The mid atlantic ridge was formed by the euarasian and north american plates separating. magma rises and cools and hardens over time and it creates an underwater mountain range.
What is the pacific ring of fire
