Volcanoes Flashcards
Is ash a primary or secondary hazard of a volcano?
Ash is a primary hazard of the volcano
lava bombs are a primary or secondary hazard of a volcano?
Lava bombs are a primary hazard of a volcano
Is lava flow a primary or secondary hazard of a volcano?
Lava flow is a primary hazard of a volcano
What is ash?
Tiny fragments of rock created by a volcanic eruption
What is a lava bomb?
Globs of molten rock erupted into the atmosphere
What is lava flow?
rivers of molten rocks which run over the grounds surface, they are slow and easy to escape
Is tephra a primary or secondary hazard of a volcano
Tephra as a secondary hazard of a volcano
It’s a tsunami of primary or secondary hazard of the volcano?
Tsunamis are a secondary hazard as a volcano
Why do people live in Volcanic areas (3 reasons)
1.volcanic ash ( ash breaks down to make that also making it easy to plant and grow crops)
2.valuable minerals . (Volcanoes bring valuable minerals to the surface including sulphur which can be sold)
3. Heritage (some families have lived in volcanic areas for decades creating strong cultural ties and making it difficult to move somewhere else)

What is a tsunami?
The displacement of seawater which causes a tsunami wave which happens when volcanic islands suffer from a landslide during an eruption
What is Tephra?
all solid material is erupted into the atmosphere by a volcano. Lots of it is ash but some can include builders if the eruption is explosive enough.
Is Lahar a primary or secondary hazard of a volcano?
Lahar is a secondary hazard of a volcano
what is Lahar?
When volcanic ash mixes with the water (river, rain) it can create fast moving, deadly mud flowwhich sets like concrete when stopped
