- They were suffocated by gas, as large quantities of CO2 collected in the lake

- Was dark for nearly 3 days for 190 miles around the volcano
- Caused yellow snow in Italy, a drought in India and Europe cold.

- Believed to erupt violently again soon, which is why it is being carefully monitored
- Digital cameras on rim powered by solar panels
- 2019 eruption killed 22 tourists (shows importance of risk perception).
