How strong was the Mt. Pinatubo eruption?
Mt. Pinatubo erupted in 1991 with an intensity of VEI 6. Making it the second largest eruption of the 20th century and 10 times larger than the Mount St. Helens eruption.
How many people were killed by the eruption and how many were killed specifically by the Lahar produced?
847 people killed in total, of which 100 killed by Lahars.

650,000 people jobless

Lahars, claimed the lives of 100 people.
What prediction measures were in place before the eruption?
75,000 people were evacuated due to accurate predictions. There was no monitoring until the 3rd of April but seismometers were put into place.
The USGS helped to predict the disaster, due to the proximity to their air base.
Permanent monitoring points were set up and use of satellite images to look upon volcano site for changes in land surface.
