Voice Theory 1 Flashcards
1
Breathing is a reflex action.
2
Breathing supplies oxygen to the blood.
3
When carbon dioxide reachers a a certain tension in the blood stream breathing muscles are stimulated into contraction
4
The muscles contract enlarging the chest cavity
5
The dome of the diagram flattens and the external intercostals move the ribs out and up, expanding the thorax.
6
Breath passes into the lungs equalising the pressure between the air in the lungs and the air outside.
7
The muscles cease to contract and the chest cavity returns to its normal size.
8
Breath passes out as the size of the lungs is reduced and the diaphragm returns to its normal dome shape.
9
In passive breath this process occurs naturally between inspiratory muscular action and the elastic recoil action of the lungs.
10
However, in the formalised voice production these actions must be regulated as controlled for the use in the phrasing and the volume.
11
Therefore the actor must learn diaphragmatic intercostal breathing, employing conscious use of expiratory breath flow through the diaphragmatic movement and internal intercostal muscle control.
