Vodka Flashcards
Absolut
Absolut Vodka was first launched in New York in 1979. It soon became the talk of the town, in the US and eventually of the world. But the recipe behind the clean and natural taste of Absolut is actually older than 30 years. So is the 18th century medicine bottle found in an antique store in Stockholm, Sweden that gave inspiration to the iconic Absolut Vodka bottle.
Absolut Mandarin
Absolut Mandrin was launched in 1999, 20 years after Absolut Vodka. It’s the fourth flavored Absolut product after Absolut Peppar, Absolut Citron and Absolut Kurant. And since mandarin and orange are among the most popular flavors in the world, Absolut Mandrin was received with the same enthusiasm as the rest of the family members.
Belvedere
Rye. Water. Character.
Belvedere Vodka is the original and true expression of luxury vodka, created from 600 years of Polish vodka-making tradition. The vodka itself is always authentic, and never artificial. Created exclusively from Polish Dankowskie Rye and quadruple-distilled to create the perfect balance of character and purity; it is completely free of additives, including sugar or glycerin. Dilution with purified water from Belvedere’s own artisan wells is essential, enabling the character of the rye to shine. Perfect on the rocks, in a martini or breathing character to any cocktail. Belvedere represents the pinnacle of vodka making tradition. Zero additives, gluten free, naturally smooth.
Nose: Faint hint of vanilla along with some gentle, soft cream characteristics.
Palate: Full and round with a medium bodied weight and rich, velvety texture. Some vanilla swaying between sweet and savory with a hint of white pepper and spice.

Chopin
POTATO
Chopin Potato Vodka reshaped western perceptions of vodka with its introduction to the U.S. market in 1997.
Tasting Profile: Chopin Potato has an alluring nose with subtle notes of vanilla and green apple. It is creamy and well-rounded with a reassuring earthiness and a long, clean finish.
How to Enjoy it: Chopin Potato is an excellent base for cocktails; served neat or on the rocks, it is unsurpassed. Try it in a CEO – a Chopin martini with extra olives.
Awards: Chopin Potato’s singular taste has caught the notice of connoisseurs and critics alike. It is consistently rated at the top of its class, earning Double Gold in the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and Gold Medals from the Chicago Beverage Testing Institute’s International Review of Spirits Award.
Production: Produced only from mid-September into early December, Chopin Potato is crafted from potatoes grown naturally – without chemicals or pesticides – by select local farmers in the fertile Podlasie countryside. These are harvested late in the season to ensure an exceptionally high starch content (22% vs. the average 12%), for a richer, more flavorful vodka.

Stolichnaya Premium Vodka (Stoli)
Stolichnaya (Russian: Столи́чная, also known as Stoli) is a vodka made of wheat and rye grain. A well-known Soviet brand, the ownership of Stolichnaya is disputed since the fall of the Soviet Union between Russian state-owned company FKP Sojuzplodoimport and SPI Group, a private company chartered in Luxembourg, founded and owned by Russian billionaire Yuri Shefler, that distributes a wide variety of Russian spirits, having purchased a number of former Soviet brands and operations. While FKP produces in Kaliningrad, Russia (for the Russian market and the Benelux market), SGI Group distributes and produces from Latvia.
Reyka
Reyka is a brand of vodka distilled and bottled in Iceland.
Looking to enter the premium vodka market, William Grant & Sons established a distillery in Borgarnes, Iceland to begin production in 2005. The marketing for Reyka draws heavily on Iceland’s reputation for purity and uniqueness. The word “Reyka” derives from the Icelandic word for steam.
The vodka is handmade and uses water drawn from a lava field, forgoing the need of treatment or demineralisation before it is blended with the vodka.
Tito’s
Tito’s Handmade Vodka is a vodka produced in Austin, Texas, in the first legal distillery in Texas, established by Bert Butler “Tito” Beveridge II. A native of San Antonio, Texas, Beveridge received the diminutive nickname “Bertito”, shortened to “Tito”, from his Latino caregivers in childhood. Tito’s Handmade Vodka is made from yellow corn, instead of the more commonly used wheat or potatoes, resulting in a mildly sweet aftertaste[citation needed], and is distilled six times.
Commercial production began in 1997 when Beveridge formed Fifth Generation, Inc., and established the Mockingbird Distillery, producing just 1,000 cases that year. In 2007, he sold over 160,000 cases. All production is still maintained at the southeast Austin distillery, where he has expanded from one pot still to ten and from one bottling line to four. Despite the growing distribution, Fifth Generation, Inc. employs fewer than 18 people.
Tito’s Handmade Vodka has gained market share thanks to some prestigious awards, affordable pricing, and word of mouth advertising. Sales and distribution boomed in 2001 after Tito’s Handmade Vodka unanimously won the Double Gold Medal for vodka at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, beating out 71 high-priced vodkas. Also that year, it received a four-star ranking from Spirit Journal and won four stars again in the 2007 edition. Tito’s has also received multiple Growth Brand Awards by the Beverage Information Group, a beverage alcohol research firm. Tito’s is distributed coast-to-coast across the United States and Canada. Also in 2013, Beveridge announced another milestone. Tito’s Handmade Vodka is now the exclusive vodka brand served on all United Airlines flights.
