Who was Narmer?
He became the first pharaoh of Egypt when he united upper and lower Egypt.
Delta
A marshy region form by deposits of silt at the mouth of a river
Pharaoh
A ruler of Egypt portrayed him/herself of being a god.
Theocracy
When the pharaoh rules in the name of a god or gods
Pyramid
A tomb for the the most wealthy (pharaoh - their family, high officers, wealthy landowners)
Mummification
The process after death that the person is cleansed and wrapped in cloth to preserve the body. Usually takes about 70 days
Hieroglyphics
Writing system used by the ancient Egyptians
Papyrus
A tall reed that grows in the Nile delta that is used to write on
Hyksos
A group of nomadic settlers that helped stabilize Egypt when they had no ruler - they also added new technology like chariots and bows.
New Kingdom
Egypt becomes an empire, have great wealth by establishing trade between countries and gaining land through strength.
Hatshepsut
A female ruler during the New kingdom she wanted trade instead of war.
Thutmose III
Overthrew his stepmother and was a war like pharaoh
Nubia
South of Egypt, the two empires traded for supplies. When Egypt started to lose power Nubia came in and took control until Lybian forces drove them out.
Ramses II
A strong ruler that made the first ever treaty with the Hittites that lasted a century.
