ad hominem
A personal attack. for example if someone is arguing with another person, they are insulting them rather than arguing with the other person’s statement.
loan word
An idea of of a word or language which was taken from another word from another language or language influenced from another language.
ramifications
Ramifications means consequences which action is taken, it is pretty much the consequences due to ones actions.
prose
Prose means to talk normally, or talking in a way where it is not poetry. If you were to talk in a poetic way then you would not be talking in prose.
vis-a-vis
It means “in regards to”, you would use this when you are talking about something that relates or regards something. It also means “face to face”
quid pro quo
“This or that”, it means to exchange something in order to get something in return. An example would be if someone gave someone money and in exchange they got an item.
ellipsis
Ellipsis is three dots “…”, you would use this when skipping words in a quote, it removes certain words so that our focus is on the main idea.
ubiquitous
Something that you see everywhere, such as how you see smartphones in our world.
schadenfreude
Happiness or satisfaction/unconscious pleasure from somebody’s misfortune or failure who you dislike.
Etymology
Breaking down parts of a word, Etymology is the history and origin of a word, it refers to the root of the word from which it is derived from.
Via
“By way of”, such as you drove to school via highway.
Perfunctory
Something that is not very meaningful. Perfunctory refers to something that is shallow and there is limited meaning behind it.
