Vocabulary of Physics Flashcards
Displacement
Vector Quantity (Direction & Magnitude) Difference between starting and ending locations
Velocity
Vector Quantity (Direction & Magnitude) Change in displacement per time. Rate of change of displacement.
Acceleration
Vector Quantity (Direction & Magnitude) Rate of change of Velocity per time.
Distance
Scalar Quantity (Magnitude only) Absolute value of Displacement
Vx
Velocity in the x direction
Vx0
Starting Velocity
Time = 0
Vy0
Starting Velocity in the vertical directon
Time = 0
Mass
Resistance to acceleration
Force
A push or pull due to contact or field effects.
Gravity
- The rate of acceleration due to gravitational forces.
- The force of gravity.
Subscripting:
QuantityModifer
Main quantity or idea identified by letter.
The subscript adds a description of direction or time or state.
Example: vxo is initial velocity in the x direction
KEB is Kinetic Energy at state B in the problem.
