Enslaved African
People from Africa who We’re forced to give up their freedom and spend their lives obeying and working for their owners or masters. Enslaved Africans were treated as a property that could be bought and sold.
Dilemma
A situation and a person is forced to make a choice even though there is no good choice to make. For example millions of enslaved Africans had to choose between dying on the voyage to America or working for the rest of their lives as slaves
middle passage
The voyage of slave traders and enslaved Africans across the Atlantic ocean from Africa to America .
Plantations
A usually large area of privately owned the land where crops were grown with the labor of workers or slaves who lived on the land.
Americas
The continent of north and South America (connected by Central America), along with nearby islands, like those in the Caribbean Sea.
Slave auctions
A sale in which slaves were sold to buyers who bid for them. Usually a slave who was sold to the person making the highest bid.
Over seer
A person who was put in charge of the work of slaves. The overseer had a great power over the slaves and could punish them for disobeying him.
