Vocabulary Basic Flashcards
a line, ray or other figure that passes through the midpoint of a segment.
Segment Bisector
a specific location with no dimension and is represented by a dot.
Point
an infinite series of points.
Line
a flat surface with no thickness that extends in all directions for infinity.
Plane
a portion of a line.
Line Segment
a part of a line with an endpoint on one end and goes on forever in the other direction.
Ray
two rays that are connected to the same point.
Angle
a ray that divides an angle into two equal parts.
Angle Bisector
an angle that measures 90 degrees.
Right Angle
an angle whose measure is less than 90 degrees, but more than 0 degrees.
Acute Angle
an angle whose measure is more than 90 degrees, but less than 180 degrees.
Obtuse Angle
an angle whose measure is 180 degrees.
Straight Angle
two angles that share a vertex and share a common side that separates them.
Adjacent Angles
any two angles that add up to 90 degrees.
Complementary Angles
any two angles that add up to 180 degrees.
Supplementary Angles
two or more lines that meet or cross at a point.
Intersecting Lines
two intersecting lines that form right angles.
Perpendicular Lines
two lines in the same plane that never intersect.
Parallel Lines
3 or more points on the same line
Collinear
3 or more points on the same plane
Coplaner
a point that equally divides a line segment.
Midpoint
two adjacent angles that form a straight line.
Linear Pair
the common endpoint of the sides of the angle.
Vertex
when a figure is folded on a line and the two sides lie exactly over each other.
Symmetry
the direction of the clock.
Clockwise
the opposite direction of the clock.
Counter Clockwise
is the same size and shape.
Congruent Figures
when figures have the same shape, but are not the same size as each other.
