Define physiology
Study of functions of living organisms and their parts
Define homeostasis
A balance the body tries to maintain by making sure it’s internal environment “stays the same”
Pathology
The scientific study of disease
Define cells
Considered to be the smallest “living” unit of structure and function
Define tissues
Organization of many cells that act together to perform a common function
Define organ
A group of several different kinds of tissues arranged so that they can act together as a unit to preform a special function
Define system
Most complex units that make up the body. Organization of varying numbers and kinds of organs arranged so that they can together perform complex functions for the body
Define anatomical position
A reference position that gives meaning to the directional terms used to describe the body parts and regions
Define Sagittal
A length wise plane running from front to back (divides body or parts into right and left sides)
What is midsagittal?
Divides the body equally
Define frontal or coronal
Length wise plane running from side to side. Divides body and parts into anterior and posterior, also known as front and back, portions
Define atrophy
The degenerative process in adulthood, which results from disuse
Define feedback loop
Basic type of control system in the body where circumstances effect your body to cause your body to make a change to create homeostasis
