Vocabulary Flashcards
Taxonomy
The branch of science that formally names and classifies organisms by their structure, function,
and relationships
Domains
All forms of life are classified into three domains or groups based on their characteristics
Unicellular
An organism made up of one cell; The single cell boy
Multicellular
An organism made up of more than one often different cells
Autotrophic
An organism that is able to make it down food; automatically
Heterotrophic
An organism that cannot make its own food
Reproduction
Sexual or asexual process of an organism producing more of its own kind
Dumb king Phil called old fat George stupid
Domain kingdom phylum class order family genus species
What are the three domains
Bacteria Eukaryota and archaea
What are the six kingdoms
Plantae fungi Archaebacteria eubacteria Protista Animalia
Domain Archaea or kingdom Archaebacteria
Prokaryote Often do not need oxygen harsh environments ancient bacteria Halobacterium salt loving found near volcanoes
Domain or kingdom bacteria
Can cause food poisoning
dose not need oxygen to live
these are the kind of bacteria likely to get a sick live in our gut or are used to make cheese
Kingdom protist
Domain Eukaryota
heterotoph or autotrough mostly lives in water
Examples water mold, Amoeba, Parancrium, Green Algae, and dinoflagellates
Kingdom plantae
Domain Eukaryota multicellular
autotroughs photosynthesis – making food from the sun
4 types-Mosses, ferns, conifers, and angiosperms
Kingdom fungi
Domain – eukaryote considered a decomposer heterotroph:nutrient includes molds mushrooms and lichens
