what is ceramic?
Having to do with clay or glass or the making of objects from clay or glass.
what is slip?
clay that has been watered down; acts as glue in slip/score technicque.slip a fine, liquid form of clay applied to the surface of a vessel prior to firing. slip fiils in pores and gives uniform color.
what is score?
to draw or make lines into clay.
what is slip/score technique?
method used in hand buuilding to combine two pieces of clay.
what is wedging?
process of removing air pockets from the clay.
what is coil method?
long strands of coil that are laid on each other and joined throgh blending coil to coil.
what is stoneware?
high-fire clay and is also waterproof without glaze.
what is slab?
a flattened out peice of clay.
what is bone dry?
the last stage of dryness that is the driest part of the stages.
what is greenware?
unfired clay objects
what is bisque ware?
caly objects that has been fired for the first time without any glaze applied to them.
what is glaze ware?
bisque ware that has been glazed then fired.
what is a fettling knife?
for cutting into moista nd leather hard clay.
what is sprigging-on?
adding small clay to form decoration on the clay.
what is the loop tool?
used for hollowing out clay forms.
what is incising?
carving out small lines in the clay.
what is a kiln?
a furnace designed to heat up the clay to the tempature necessary to make it permantly hard.

the heating of coils of an electric kiln.
what is footing?
the bottom of a piece that rests on a surface.
what is firing?
clay is hardened by heating it up to high tempature.
what is glaze?
glass-forming materials, usually with colorants added.

a clay form made from a mold.

a liquid clay used in the process of forming objects with mold.

a thin coat of color that will soak into the greenware or bisqueware.

a mixture of ceramic materials that is designed to soften and bend when the proper mixture of time and tempature.

small claycone holder used whencones are placed on the shelf of the kiln stand.
what is cone tempature?
the mixture of time and tempature that will show on the kilns tempature.
what is earthernware?
a low-fire clay body which is fired to reach 2000 oF.
what is food-safe?
safe for use on surfaces which come in contact with food or drink.
what is the foot?
the base or part where the ceramic rests upon.
what is gloss?
a shiny glass like finish.

refractory coating applied
