Cortex

Diabetes mellitus
Type 1: marked by lack of insulin due to the body’s inability to properly metabolize carbohydrates, fats and proteins
Type 2: insulin is not adequately or appropriately secreted
Diabetes insipidus
Metabolic disorder of the pituitary gland due to a deficiency of the antidiuretic hormone
Gestational diabetes
Occurs during pregnancy and displays the same symptoms as diabetes millitus. Symptoms usually disappear following the birth of the baby
Epinephrine or adrenaline
A hormone secreted by the adrenal gland in response to stress and physical injury. (fight or flight) it is also a drug used to treat hypersensitivity reactions (severe allergy), asthma
Estrogen
Hormone that promotes the development of secondary sex characteristics in females
Glucose
Simplest form of sugar in the body
Glycosuria
Sugar in the urine
Goiter
Enlargement of the thyroid gland
Graves’ disease or hyperthyroidism
Excessive activity of the thyroid gland
Hirsutism
Excessive body hair especially in women
Hypercalemia
Higher than normal blood calcium levels
Hyperglycaemia
Higher than normal blood sugar levels
Hyperkalemia
Higher than normal blood potassium levels
Hypernatremia
Higher than normal blood sodium levels
